Updated: The Mural of the Mohawk Chiefs -- After 300 Years, the Story of this Mural is Now Known

A prior talk by Dave Pepson on the Mural of the Mohawk Chiefs linked Captain Archibald Macpheadris to the "Indian Kings", and explained why he had this Mural painted in the Macpheadris-Warner House in ca. 1718.  A key element of the research that provided the answer to the 300-year-old mystery was primary source documentation from 1709. This earlier talk also explained that Peter Schuyler (former Mayor of Albany) was instrumental in convincing the Mohawk Chiefs to travel to London to meet with Queen Anne -- and obtain the military support needed to defeat the French at  Port Royal, Acadia (now Nova Scotia). 

New research provides many more details on the relationship between Schuyler and the Mohawk Chiefs. The updated talk will paint a very interesting picture of the Dutch and the Mohawks in the late seventeenth and early eighteenth century. This talk will also provide much more information on the very interesting and highly eclectic diplomatic tour of the Mohawk Chiefs across London -- a tour, that for the "Indian Kings", must have felt almost surreal!
